HTA Scholarships Foster Hospitality Industry
The next generation of hospitality and tourism industry workers will soon begin their training after the Hospitality Training Association Inc. (HTA) announced the recipients of the 2008 Industry Scholarship Program.
Fourteen Queenslanders received scholarships, each worth $18,000 and offered by HTA in conjunction with the peak hospitality industry employer and employee associations:
Commencing in January 2008, the scholarships allow the recipients to study a Diploma of Hospitality Management at HTA encompassing a combination of practical and theoretical elements.
The one-year diploma, will provide the recipients with an insight into a career in the hospitality industry and an internationally recognised qualification.
HTA is Queensland’s leading training, employment and recruitment organisation servicing the growing hospitality and tourism industry.
HTA CEO Phillip Charlton said the 2008 HTA Industry Scholarship Program, worth more than $300,000, promoted the hospitality and tourism industry as a career pathway for the next generation of industry staff.
“Over the past five years, HTA has provided more than $1 million in scholarship funding to young people and the hospitality industry,” he said.
“This is an initiative to help hospitality establishments by relieving the skills shortage and increasing the supply of skilled workers.
“For the scholarship recipients, they are about to embark on a rewarding career in the hospitality and tourism industry."
The successful scholarship recipients addressed a selection criteria and were interviewed by a three-person panel of industry professionals from: Restaurant and Catering Queensland, Queensland Hotels Association, Hotel, Motel and Accommodation Association, Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union, Clubs Queensland, the McGuires Hotel Group and Hospitality Training Association Inc.
The scholarship recipients included:

- Katherine Gilmore
In addition to paid internships, the scholarships include all tuition fees, textbooks, uniforms and tools of the trade.
