HTA shares “best practice” training tips with Pakistan delegation
A delegation of education experts from Pakistan recently toured the Hospitality Training Association as part of its mission to learn from leaders in Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) system.
The team, from the Pakistan National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (NAVTEC), is currently looking to reform and build the capacity of Pakistan’s technical and vocational education sector.
By invitation from Prime Minister Howard, the team of vocational and education experts is in Australia to study vocational education and training and further strengthen the linkages between Australia and Pakistan.
Co-ordinated by AusAID and the Australian Department of Education, Science and Technology, and facilitated by Queensland’s VET Export Office, the delegation toured HTA’s Brisbane campus before enjoying a dinner prepared and served by HTA’s trainee chefs.
HTA CEO Phillip Charlton said the delegation was keen to see how leading Australian training providers operated.
“NAVTEC is currently finalising a strategic plan for introducing essential reforms in vocational education and training in Pakistan and is touring the leading VET providers in Australia,” he said.
“In particular, the delegation wanted to see how private and industry organisations, such as HTA, play an important role in identifying and addressing the skills shortage by providing industry-relevant training programs.
“HTA is committed to working with government to foster the skills, employment and personal development of tomorrow’s hospitality industry through quality hands-on training and management to match the needs, standards and expectations of the hospitality industry.
“The delegation is also interested in our competency-based approach to training, improving quality assurance and introducing a new qualifications framework.”
Mr Charlton said he hoped the visit would strengthen ties between Australia and Pakistan in the education sector.
HTA is a not-for-profit organisation created by the hospitality industry to service the recruitment, training and employment needs of the industry.
HTA provides industry-relevant training and apprenticeships to more than 600 domestic and international students each year, helping to address the Australian skills shortage and providing internationally-recognised qualifications to launch careers.
